The Boat Show with no Tent • Charter Yacht Acquisition • Best in Show: The Hinckley Company
The Bay Harbor Boat Show is a boat show with a small town feel. This year's event was held on father's day weekend, June 20-21 in Bay Harbor, located on the shores of Lake Michigan between Petoskey and Charlevoix. All of the vendors and many of the patrons knew each other, creating a warm atmosphere. Boat show attendees were some of the most enthusiastic I have ever seen at a show, and the exhibitors were more than welcome to accommodate them. Each boat had at least one tour going on them at a time, making this the liveliest of smaller shows.
The day lent itself to a boat show; there was a slight breeze of the bay and a perfectly warm sun. Off the docks on the lawn between the Marina and the Village were about fifteen vendors, where one could look at everything from renting a Bay Harbor property to purchasing sunglasses. There was also a breathtaking display of antique wooden boats that were up for auction. Next to the vendors is Knot Just a Bar where you could get the perfect nautical meal to match your perfect nautical day.
Boat Show Spotlight: Acquisition
For those accustomed to large shows such as Ft. Lauderdale, a smaller show seems to not offer as much, not enough sailing boats, large yachts, or water toys. However, the Bay Harbor Boat Show had it all, including a charter, which is extremely rare to see on Lake Michigan.
According to its owner/captain, Acquisition is the only private charter motor yacht available in the Great Lakes. The 70' Broward cruises at from eleven to twelve knots throughout the Great Lakes region, including Lake St. Claire and the North Channel. The Acquisition caters to families and couples, and features a full bar, living room, parlor, and new flat screen televisions. For added convenience, each stateroom has its own restroom, there is also one upstairs in the event of rough waters. Captain and owner Thomas Jannausch has built a strong reputation in the area, attracting long-standing clients. For more information contact Jannausch at tjannausch@aol.com.
Best in Show: The Hinckley Company
If best in show were awarded at the Bay Harbor Boat Show the winner would clearly be The Hinckley Company's display of their Jetboats. In production since 1928 Hinckley has created aquatic masterpieces that combine modern power with classic grace. Each boat be it power or sail is custom made guaranteeing that each patron receives the boat of their dreams. These boats aren't just for looks either; they are some of the most durable and fastest makes on the water. I've seen Hinckleys on the shores of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard; but they seem to be the perfect fit at Bay Harbor.
